Do SUSTAGEN® products contain lactose?
Yes, all SUSTAGEN® products have lactose in differing quantities.
SUSTAGEN® Hospital Formula, SUSTAGEN® Sport, SUSTAGEN® ready-to-drink and SUSTAGEN® Everyday are high in lactose as they are based on skim milk powder.
SUSTAGEN® OPTIMUM™ and SUSTAGEN® Diabetic are very low in lactose when made up with water (0.28g per serve).
Do SUSTAGEN® products contain any artificial preservatives?
No, SUSTAGEN® products do not contain any added artificial preservatives.
Do SUSTAGEN® products contain caffeine?
All chocolate variants of SUSTAGEN® contain a small amount of caffeine naturally occurring in the cocoa ingredient. SUSTAGEN® Hospital Formula Coffee flavour also contains caffeine. All other flavours of SUSTAGEN® do not contain caffeine.
Is SUSTAGEN® gluten free?
There are no gluten containing ingredients in any SUSTAGEN® products.

Does SUSTAGEN® contain fructose?
No, SUSTAGEN® products do not contain fructose.
What age are SUSTAGEN® products suitable for?
SUSTAGEN® Hospital Formula and SUSTAGEN® Optimum™ are suitable for children aged 4 years and above.
SUSTAGEN® Everyday and SUSTAGEN® Ready To Drink are suitable for children aged 4 years and above.
SUSTAGEN® Sport is not suitable for children under 15 years of age or pregnant women.
SUSTAGEN® Diabetic is suitable for children aged 4 years and above with diabetes or pre-diabetes (type 1 or type 2) who are not eating well or have a poor appetite.
What is the Glycaemic Index (GI) of SUSTAGEN® Diabetic?
The Glycaemic Index of SUSTAGEN® Diabetic powder is 34, and SUSTAGEN® Diabetic Ready To Drink is 30. It is specially formulated for people with diabetes, as it is lower in carbohydrates than SUSTAGEN® Hospital Formula, based on a per serve basis.
Are SUSTAGEN® products suitable for Vegetarians or Vegans?
As the SUSTAGEN® range contains milk, they are not suitable for someone who is following a vegan diet. SUSTAGEN® Hospital Formula Active, SUSTAGEN® Hospital Formula Active Plus Fibre, SUSTAGEN® Diabetic, SUSTAGEN Everyday Ready to Drink and SUSTAGEN Everyday Vanilla flavour powder are all suitable for vegetarians.
Can you consume SUSTAGEN® when pregnant?
In most cases consumption of SUSTAGEN® products during pregnancy is fine (besides SUSTAGEN® Sport, as it is not suitable for pregnant women) and the additional nutritional intake is beneficial. However, as we do not know your medical history, we recommend that you check with your healthcare professional prior to taking this or any nutritional supplement.
Can you consume SUSTAGEN® while breast feeding?
In most cases consumption of SUSTAGEN® products while breast feeding is fine and the additional nutritional intake is beneficial. However, as we do not know your medical history, we recommend that you check with your doctor prior to taking this or any nutritional supplement.
Can I make SUSTAGEN® with full cream milk instead of low fat/skim milk?
Yes, however the nutrient content, including additional fat and calories from full cream milk, will be different to what is stated in the nutrition information panel on the packaging.
How long can SUSTAGEN® be kept once prepared?
It must be treated like any other food that is prepared. It must be consumed after 6 hours if kept at room temperature and 24hrs if refrigerated.
What is the shelf life of SUSTAGEN® once it has been initially opened?
Once opened, product should be used within 4 weeks.
